AT&T USBConnect Quicksilver

by Shawn Bravo
(Dallas, TX)

I already have a 3G AT&T USBConnect Quicksilver device. I want to buy prepaid Internet service for it now. The old number I used to have for it is disconnected. Can I do this?

I hate to think I have this device and I can't use it, or that I will have to buy another one.

Using AT&T Modem for Prepaid Broadband
by: PrepaidWirelessGuy

There shouldn't be any reason why you can't use your existing modem for AT&T's prepaid broadband service. That is assuming that you're not on contract, and the modem is clean (i.e. not stolen or suspended for some reason; not to say that that's the case at all!).

Also, you don't need to worry about the fact that the modem's phone number is currently disconnected. During the activation process, they'll simply activate a new account with a new phone number.

Just remember to ask about any activation fees to reactivate your existing modem on prepaid broadband. I wouldn't expect there would be any fees, particularly because it's cheaper for them to allow you to use an existing modem, than to have you buy a new one, which may be slightly subsidized (even on prepaid). But you never know. Please feel free to report back after you've given it a try!
