No Pay-As-You-Go on Smartphones
by: PrepaidWirelessGuy

Just a quick note that it's my understanding that you can't currently activate a per minute plan on a smartphone. i.e. You must use it on a monthly plan. Also, for people looking for per minute plans, there are some good options now for under $0.10/min, which offers some excellent value!

It depends on how much you use it
by: booch221

The best prepaid wireless plan depends on how much you use your phone. If you make very few calls and keep them short then plans that charge 10 cents/minute like Net10 and AT&T Gophone offers some nice prepaid Android phones.

If you are looking to replace your land line, then Straight Talk with unlimited talk and data can be had for less than $42/month. Virgin Mobile is another option (a little more expensive, but you can get Android phones).

Tried them almost all of them, but one is for me
by: Maria

I tried just about every prepaid cell phone thats out there and the one thats worked best for me by far is Straight Talk. It has the best network, because its supported by both the Verizon and AT&T networks and it's incredibly cheap and easy. For $45 a month I get unlimited talk, text and web. Best of all, the peace of mind I get knowing that I'm not paying an arm and a leg for a cell phone.

Best Prepaid Wireless Services
by: PrepaidWirelessGuy

Good question! I hear this being asked a lot recently. Even people with postpaid plans are starting to ask what is the best prepaid wireless plan?! It's truly amazing how much the market has changed in 2008 and 2009 in particular. The reality is that prepaid wireless used to be pretty simple and straightforward; even boring you could say! But now we've turned a corner and there are an overwhelming amount of options. So many options in fact, that you could even say that there are too many options.

I think it's really about understanding your personal wireless needs (ex. number of minutes, text messages, data, phone preference, etc.), and then narrowing down your options. You'll find that this first step will take you a long way towards a final decision that makes sense for you. From there it's still work to pick out all of the plan details and compare each one. That?s really what the objective of many pages on this site; to help you with this process. There was actually a previous question on this subject, with a good discussion that outlines the recommended steps to take to navigate through this site to help you get to a final conclusion on the best prepaid plan for you. You can find it here: Cellular Phone Plan Prepaid Shopping

I also want to note that with all of the competition, and resulting new options that have surfaced recently, I believe that over the next two to three years we'll find that there will be a lot of consolidation in the prepaid market. We already saw Sprint buy Virgin Mobile (Sprint owns Boost Mobile), Verizon purchase Alltel, etc. That's not to say that there won't still be many many options! But over the coming years, it should help to make things easier when you're looking for the best prepaid wireless plan. For example, instead of plans looking very similar except for a little feature here or there, or a slight price difference of a few pennies here or there, hopefully the plans will be more targeted, which means that it will be easier to identify a plan for its unique benefits, and the differences between prepaid plans will be more meaningful.

There's a lot of information on this site to help you find the best prepaid wireless plan(s) for you, and if you see anything missing, definitely please let me know!
